◎Continents ◎

Introduction:A continent is a very large land mass on earth. Generally by convention the entire land area of earth is divided into seven continents as shown in above picture. The percentage of the area covered by continents(i.e. total land area) of the total surface area of the earth is 29.1%. These continents are separated from each other because of oceans, seas or conventional boundaries based on geological or cultural differences. The seven continents in the worlds are listed as below.

They are listed according to the land size from biggest to smallest.

1-Asia

2-Africa

3-North America

4-South America

5-Antarctica

6-Europe

6-Australia/Oceania
●Asia: Asia is the largest continent of all continents. It is also most populouscontinent of all continents. Some interesting facts about Asia are as follows. Asia covers nearly 30% of the land area of the total land area on Earth. Asia covers nearly 8.7% of Earth’s total surface area. Asia currently accommodates nearly 60% of the total human population on Earth. Population Density of Asia is 87/km2. Asia is connected to Europe directly by land at west-north there is no geographical separation between them. Asia is bounded on east by Pacific Ocean. Asia is bounded on south by Indian Ocean Asia is bounded on NORTH by Arctic Ocean. Asia and Africa are joined by Isthmus of Suez.

North America is bounded on east by Atlantic Ocean. North America is bounded on south by Pacific Ocean.
●South America:  South America is 4th largest after Asia, Africa and North America. Some interesting facts about South America are as follows. South America comprises nearly 12 % of EARTH’S LAND AREA South America comprises nearly 3.5% of the EARTH’S TOTAL SURFACE AREA. South America accounts for about 6% of the world’s human population SOUTH AMERICA is bounded on NORTH by Atlantic Ocean. SOUTH AMERICA is bounded on WEST by Pacific Ocean. SOUTH AMERICA is bounded on EAST by Atlantic Ocean. Population Density of SOUTH AMERICA is 21.4/km2.

EUROPE is bounded on WEST by Atlantic Ocean. EUROPE is bounded on SOUTH by Black Sea and Aegean Sea.
● Australia/Oceania:   Australia is the smallest continent among 7 recognized continents. Some interesting facts about Europe are as follows. The Continent AUSTRALIA comprises nearly 5.9% of EARTH’S LAND AREA. The Continent AUSTRALIA comprises nearly 1.7% of the EARTH’S TOTAL SURFACE AREA.
